Many cultures have preferred to track time and the cycles of nature with the moon, rather than the sun. As we finish off this series celebrating the return of the sun, we’ll take a moment to sit with the other side of things.
Like many of these traditions we’ve covered, using the lunar calendar can be found from ancient cultures all across the globe. It seems that sense humans have existed, we have looked to the heavens for some sense of why or how. The earliest of us paid reverence to the patterns of the world and our place in the universe.
On the Twelfth Day of Winter Solstice…
Who are you to think that the stars don’t influence you? Our position in space is everything. If Earth were any further or closer to the sun, life would not be sustainable for humans. There had to be the perfect collection of space dust for our little experiment to be here at all. Our entire existence was created through very fragile circumstances. Whether you believe these conditions arose from a higher intelligent being or if it’s all pure coincidence, I think it would be sheer hubris to think the stars have no influence over you.
