Who are you to think that the stars don’t influence you? Our position in space is everything. If Earth were any further or closer to the sun, life would not be sustainable for humans. There had to be the perfect collection of space dust for our little experiment to be here at all. Our entire existence was created through very fragile circumstances. Whether you believe these conditions arose from a higher intelligent being or if it’s all pure coincidence, I think it would be sheer hubris to think the stars have no influence over you.
The zodiac is a group of constellations that rotate across the sky as we journey around the sun. The most common way you likely hear about the zodiac is through your Hellenistic Sun Sign, but there is so much more to learn if you’re willing. Especially if you’re a skeptic or feel like your sun sign doesn’t say much about you. Take a look into the more detailed, more personalized side of astrology.
You can also find information about the complicated origins of this practice of divination. Many of the different cultures mapping the stars did not differentiate between Astrology and Astronomy (the math/science of the stars). Western Astrology usually credits Ancient Babylon for its origins but you can also find Vedic Astrology, Chinese Astrology, and Islamic Astrology (to name a few). The transfer and evolution of knowledge change the content along the way. Astrologers commonly disagree about which branch is the most accurate — just like scientists argue over the origins and makeup of the universe.
If you’re getting superficial horoscopes, it makes sense that it wouldn’t fit your daily life. I would argue this is not a problem with Astrology itself and more where you get your information. Astrology started to make the most sense to me when I learned about my different placements. Finding out what my moon and rising signs are helped me see the ways the different pieces of my personality interact. More recently, I’ve been looking into the aspects in my chart (the angels created between different planets). More fully understanding my chart has been a door to more understanding of myself and others.
Since the works of Carl Jung, Astrology has been more accepted in psychology for these very reasons. The universe had to have a very specific set of circumstances for you to be who you are and where you are. Take a moment to soak in how complex our reality actually is.
The point is that there’s a lot to learn and I would suggest not solidifying opinions on things until you give it a full chance. Many websites, like Astro Charts, help you generate your whole chart and also have information on what the different placements and aspects mean. If you’re curious, allow yourself to start somewhere. There’s more to learn everywhere so follow the things that interest you and keep that skeptical eye on things. Just please don’t let that skepticism stop you from learning more!
